Recruitment Drive
As well as visiting non-member homes on our regular roads we are embarking on a recruitment drive on a number of other roads so as to complete our membership drive in our general geographic area.
Currently we are canvassing Kilworth Road. Later we will canvass Carrow Road and the even numbers on Sperrin Road.  (By agreement with our sister association - Drimnagh Community Residents Group- we accept members from even numbered houses and they accept members from the odd numbered houses).

If you live on Kilworth Road, Carrow Road or the even-numbered side of Sperrin Road, then please contact us either by phone (087-23 66 99 7 or by e-mail chair@drimnaghcommunity.com) because it is quite possible somebody may have called to your house while you were out and thus missed meeting and speaking with you.
****************************************************************************************************

Do you live in Drimnagh?
If not, you are very welcome to our Website.
If you do live in Drimnagh, are you a member of the Residents' Association?
If not, then you should be.  Read on to see all the reasons why you should join up immediately.
As our motto says, WORKING TOGETHER TO HELD EACH OTHER.

SUBSCRIPTION COLLECTION
&
RECRUITMENT OF NEW MEMBERS

MEMBERSHIP SUBSCRIPTION COLLECTION:
The Annual collection of Membership Subscription begins, as usual, during the Month of March.  All members should expect to be visited during the Month of March (weather permitting) or possibly April.  As always, if you are out a repeat call will be made if you are missed on the 1st or 2nd call.  Should you happen to be missed twice it would be appreciated if you would contact us so that our collector can call at a more appropriate time.  We thank you in advance for your, as always, total cooperation.
LADDERS:
Do remember all our Ladders are now stored in Our Lady's Hall, Mourne Road, and can be borrowed on Wednesdays @ 6:30pm pm or on Saturdays @ 11:30am.
RECRUITMENT OF NEW MEMBERS:
During the last few years we lost some members through death and also as a result of people moving out of Drimnagh to live elsewhere.  We will be calling on new residents and non-members in a recruitment drive over the next few months to build our membership back up to 850+ which was our membership number in the recent past.  It would be a great help if, when talking to your neighbours you mention this recruitment drive to them and encouraged them to join up.  Thank you

TALKS TO ESTABLISH A
DRIMNAGH COMMUNITY FORUM BEGIN

Picture
Dublin City Council has embarked on a process of establishing a Drimnagh Community Forum as part of its South Central Community Forum.  A meeting was held on Tuesday May 24th and it was agreed, after strong urging from Drim Residents Association, to, (assuming agreement), use Drimnagh Community Network, Commonly known as the Network as the vehicle to establish a Forum in Drimnagh rather than try to establish yet another organisation and another layer of bureaucratic meetings. The City Council agreed to contact the Network to determine if this approach is feasible and acceptable.  The next meeting of the Forum is set for Tuesday June 14th. The matter is to be discussed at the Network at its next meeting so that a definite decision can be made on June 14th.
The arguments in favour of such a Forum include the following:
(1) It provides unique access to information on the ideas and thinking by Dublin City Council and other statutory agencies.
(2) By working together, community and voluntary groups have a greater opportunity not only to voice theri opinions but also to be heard, thus influencing and formulating policies.
(3) It provides an opportunity to meet with similar groups from around the City, giving you a sense of how they approach their activities.
(4) As a member, a group is eligible to avail of a special group insurance scheme.
Time will tell how things will work out. The Residents Association, will as always, ensure that its members interests are strongly represented.

COGHLAN ROUNDABOUT

Picture
At the request of Drimnagh Residents Association to Dublin City Council, the Roundabout at the junction of Cooley Road and Mourne Road is to be named the Coghlan Roundabout.  Because this is out Diamond Jubilee, having operated for 75 continuous years serving the local residents, we felt this would be a fitting way to mark this wonderful occasion and to do so with the name of a wonderful family in Drimnagh who have lived on Cooley Road for so may years.  Initially the idea was to Honour Eamonn for his wonderful contribution to Athletics but, of course his late father also made a wonderful contribution to Athletics - albeit, in a somewhat different, but no less significant, way. Indeed the entire Coghlan family have left their mark on Drimnagh in different ways.
We will have more information on this later in the year.

Report to May Management Committee

Meeting of D. R. A. on Wed 18th

Meeting in Crumlin Gárda Station

RE: Hospital generated Parking

Picture

In attendance:
Superintendent Bart Faulkner
Sally Redington (Engineer - D.C.C.)
Gárda Rodger Quinn
Gárda Stephen Gavin
Francis Murphy – Our Lady’s Hospital
Peter Burke – Drim. Res. Association
The meeting on Thursday May 5th @ 3pm was facilitated by Supt. Faulkner who called on me (Peter Burke) to make the case for the Residents first.

·        I went through all the details as we’ve discussed at our meetings. Any reference to Hosp Staff was objected to by Francis Murphy on the grounds we were making allegations and had no proof. He continually made distinction between Staff and ‘Visitors’ (excluding patients). Essentially I found him in denial, lacking in any sensitivity to our problem. He sees everything in ‘black & White’

·        Discussion centred on problems at Hosp entrance for a while. Suggestion from DCC and Gárdai to move barrier back further into Hosp to allow extra cars off the road was resisted – Francis couldn’t or wouldn’t see the value in doing this.

·        Signage not ready because no finance available for it in Hosp!

·        Errigal Gdns – prospects of continuous DYL are good.

·        Gárdai very supportive of banning Right turn from Errigal Road into Errigal Gdns – opposed by Francis Murphy because a few Staff use it to get into car park!

·        Old Convent Site to be examined by DCC as temporary parking for Hosp Staff & Visitors.

·        Dangerous Parking (on corners etc) – this to be tackled by both DCC & Gárdai.

·        The use of permanent bollards to be examined for corner of Cooley / Errigal Gdns and also opposite shops on Errigal Rd.

·        DCC to look at both short term and long term solutions and report back to next meeting.

·        Gárdai to look at whole issue – concentrated effort to be made.

·        Supt Faulkner has no problem with parking on paths as long as there is sufficient space to allow for wheelchairs / prams etc and has no difficulty with us putting this into a circular to members – he is prepared to stand over it. However, dangerous parking will not be tolerated.
It was agreed to meet again at same venue @ 3 pm on June 23rd at which meeting there will be a report from DCC, Gárdai & Hospital on progress made

MEETING ARRANGED WITH HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT

A high powered delegation is to meet with Management from Our Lady's Hospital to discuss the ongoing problem of parking in the vicinity of the Hospital.  The delegation includes Gárda Superintendent Faulkner, representatives from Dublin Bus, Dublin City Council and of course members of Drimnagh Residents Association Management Committee. This meeting is arranged for Thursday May 5th and we will keep you informed of progress resulting from that meeting.

CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL - STAFF PARKING PROBLEMS
RESIDENTS' PATIENCE RUNNING OUT

Picture
For quite some time parking by staff of the Children's Hospital has being causing serious problems for residents in the vicinity.  In the recent past we had to have double yellow lines placed around the field (Dromard Road) just to allow residents access to and from their own houses.  In the meantime the problem has worsened considerably and we received constant complaints from residents in all the surrounding roads about cars parked indiscriminately blocking access to and from local houses.
One thing needs to be stated very clearly up-front here. Nobody in Drimnagh objects to any parent bringing a sick child to the Hospital and parking,m quite literally, anywhere.  We understand the trauma and we do not object in any way no matter where cars are parked under these circumstances.
We do object to Hospital Staff parking their cars indiscriminately, and indeed often times dangerously, right across the area. Residents on Cooley Rd., Slievemore Rd, Dromard Rd, Errigal Rd, Brandon Rd (to name the more seriously effected) suffer enormously from this unacceptable and thoughtless behaviour. This cannot continue.  We are arranging a meeting with Hospital authorities, Gárdai, Dublin City Council and Dublin Bus in an attempt to finally find a lasting solution to this problem. We will keep you informed on this issue.

President McAleese
with the
Management Committee of Drim Res Association
at the beginning of the launch of the Diamond Jubilee

Picture
The Diamond Jubilee was finally officially launched on Wednesday March by Her Excellency, President Mary McAleese who had just come from an ecumenical service to mark the opening day of the 31st Dáil and immediately afterwards had to rush off to present the seal of office of Taoiseach to the new Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
The President in her address praised the magnificent tradition of 75 years of service by Drimnagh Residents Association and had particular praise for all volunteers as exemplified by the many volunteers who had worked for the Association over the past 75 years. She noted that volunteers are unique in that they have a job for life, they usually never retire and are never made redundant!

To mark the occasion of the beginning of the Diamond Jubilee, Drimnagh Residents Association made a presentation of the front page of the Sunday Independent as it appeared on the day the Archbishop was born.  The presentation took place at a reception held in the McAuley Centre immediately after the special Mass which was attended by a large number of people from across Drimnagh.

DIAMOND JUBILEE
TWO DATES TO REMEMBER

Sunday March 6th. To mark the beginning of the Diamond Jubilee Year, a special Mass, celebrated by His Grace Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. This will be followed by a reception in the McAuley Centre where a presentation will be made to the Archbishop.  All are welcome to both the Mass and the reception.
Wednesday March 9th
The Diamond Jubilee will be officially launched by Her Excellency, President Mary McAleese at 11:45 am in Our Lady's Hall, Mourne Road.  The official launch will be followed by a simple reception in the Hall.  Obviously we are very pleased the President is able to officially launch this Diamond Jubilee.  All are invited to attend and we would ask that you be in the Hall by 11:15. The President, because of her busy schedule in this her final year as President, can only be with us from 11:30 to 12:15.

VARIETY CONCERT
A MAJOR SUCCESS

Picture
The Fundraising Variety Concert held on Friday 11th of February turned out to be a huge success and attracted a fabulous audience who really appreciated what they saw.  A special word of thanks to Our Lady's Choristers who put on a spectacular opening section to the evening with top class rendition of classical musical numbers and a few well known pieces of sacred music.  Their two solo singers were a real revelation. The Comedienne, in both of her slots, was tremendously funny and had the audience eating out of her hands.  The Gospel Choir from Perrystown was also outstanding and of course MAGS, both collectively and individually once again proved their value in talent and entertainment.
The Management Committee of Our Lady's Hall thanks all who helped with selling of tickets especially McAuley Centre, Parish Office and the Ladies Club and of course all who turned up on the night.

VARIETY CONCERT
NEW DATE
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 11TH

Picture
The Fund-Raising Variety Concert, cancelled prior to Christmas because of the terrible weather has been rescheduled for Friday February 11th @ 8:00 pm in Our Lady's Hall, Mourne Road.  This is a very important event, not only because of the funds it might raise but also as an indicator of the local support for the revival of the Hall and its development into a real Community Centre for the Community.  If the support is there then there is no limit to the potential for development of the Centre.  Already the New Management Committee have made serious strides in that regard. So come out and support this Variety Concert and show that you really care.

INSULTING ARC DOCUMENT FINALLY BINNED

At an important meeting on Monday evening held in the Bosco Centre and attended by the main Residents Associations (including Drimnagh Residents Association)and most of the other main organisations in Drimnagh plus the Chairperson and several members of the D12 Drugs Task Force (who had of course funded the original outrageous document in the first place)  the infamous and outrageous  ARCdocument was effectively binned.  The meeting was also attended by Councillors Ruairi McGinley (F.G.) and Councillor Eric Byrne (Lab).
The Task Force accepted  that the document was clearly a flawed document which, at best, could only be viewed  as a very poor 1st Draft It was agreed an entirely new piece of research would be produced under the general heading of Family Resource for families affected by drug abuse in the Drimnagh Area. There will be full and proper consultation with all the real stake holders in Drimnagh.  The research will be undertaken by the Task Force with all reference to ARC removed.
It was made very clear to the Task Force that the Drimnagh Organisations were going out on a limb in trusting it with the task of producing an objective document free of all hidden agendas otherwise we would all be back to square one with all trust gone.
Drimnagh Residents Association accepts this is a satisfactory outcome to this unhappy episode which has occupied far to much of our valuable time since last March.

Below see an outline list of some of the suggestions we are working on, which is being worked on by the Organising Committee on a weekly basis, and it is expected it will be finalised into a definite timetable by end of year or early January.
For our most recent circular to all residents in our geographical area, please click on 'recent circulars'.
Drimnagh Residents Association has agreed to re-affiliate to Drimnagh Network on a trial basis.  We do have some problems with the Draft Constitution of the Network but we believe these can be ironed out.

THE CARRUTH ROUNDABOUT
DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL HONOURS DRIMNAGH'S FINEST. THE ROUNDABOUT ON MOURNE ROAD, NEAREST TO DRIMNAGH BOXING CLUB, WAS RECENTLY NAMED "THE CARRUTH ROUNDABOUT" IN HONOUR OF MICHAEL CARRUTH OUR ONLY LIVING IRISH BOXING OLPYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST

Picture
We all remember that grorious Saturday morning in 1992 when Michael Carruth brouth pride and tears of joy to our eyes as he won a Gold Medal for Boxing for Ireland.  It has taken a long time to mark that occasion in a tangeable way, but this was finally put right with the naming of the roundabout after him and as he made clear himself incorporating his whole family, from his father Austin, his mother Joan and his brothers (several of whom boxed not just for the Drimnagh boxing club but for Ireland.
The occasion was also honoured by the presence of the other Irish Olympic Gold Medalist from 1956, Ronnie Delaney. The attendance, led by Dublin's Lord Mayor Mr. Gerry Breen, included City Councillors Ruairi McGInley & Eric Byrne plus Mary Upton TD and representatives from many, if not all, of the main organisations in Drimnagh including the two main Residents Associations (DRA & DCRG) , The GAA, The Bosco, Our Lady's Hall.
This was a special occasion, long overdue, for the Carruth Family and in particular for the star attraction, Michael Carruth. and also for Drimnagh itself as it highlights some of the many very positive sides of Drimnagh.

LORD MAYOR OF DUBLIN VISITS DRIMNAGH

Picture
Dublin's Lord Mayor, Cllr Gerry Breen visited Drimnagh on Tuesday August 17th accompanied by Cllr Ruairi McGinley and City Official Brian Lyons from the South Central Office, Crumlin Village. . The welcoming party, at the Bosco Youth Centre, as in photo on left, included Bosco Board member Peter Burke and Ger Derereux, I.T. Instructor in the Bosco centre. Lord Mayor Breen was taken on a tour of the Centre, which he had heard a lot about which is no surprise as the Bosco is well known across the City and indeed further afield as it hosts guests from various parts of Europe and the US with much interest in its website (www.thebosco.net). During the tour he visited an IT class in progress and such was the interest shown by the students that he had to cancel his intended visit to the Shops on Galtymore Road

STUDENTS MEETING THE LORD MAYOR

Picture
After the Lord Mayor had discussed the issues of the day with the group of youngsters it was time to have the traditional group photograph. At this point the otherwise very vocal students became very shy, in particular the male members of the group.  However they were eventualy persuaded to participate and so the photo was arranged and remains as a record of the event.  One of the great memories of the occasion was the huge amount of current affairs knowledge displayed by the students who are well aware of the problems the country faces at the moment and displayed a sizeable amount of anger at the situation in which they find themselves.

                      DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
The Management Committee of D.R.A. is holding a special meeting at the end of August to discuss a list of suggestions which have been put forward which it is hoped will form the basis for the Agenda for the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in 2011. The full list is published on the Circulars page of this Website.  If you have any suggestions yourself please feel free to let us know by e-mailing your suggestion(s) to info@drimnaghcommunity.com.  All suggestions will be treated as valuable contributions to the preparations for the Diamond Jubilee Year.

ARC - Unsatisfactory Response from D12LDTF and ARC itself and serious disappointment with exceptionally poor response from most of our Public Representatives.

With the exception of Deputy Catherine Byrne & Councillors Ruairi McGinley and (to a lesser extent) Eric Byrne, the response to our critique of the outrageous ARC document has been poor in the extreme. In some cases there has been no response at all.  Here was a golden opportunity for our 5 Dail TD's and our 8 Local Councillors (13 in all) to show that they really cared about Drimnagh and only 3, the above mentioned Catherine Byrne, Ruairi McGinley  & Eric Byrne, stepped up to the plate when we really needed them.
Needless to say we are also outraged at the failure of D12LDTF (Local Drugs Task Force) to bring ARC to task for its outrageous publication which D12LDTF funded.  A meeting of the main Drimnagh-based organisations has taken place and demanded the complete withdrawal of the offending document.  A meeting is being arranged with D12LDTF and it is also expected we will meet with representatives of Pobal (Dept of Community Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs) as the funding initially came from it to D12LDTF. There are many unanswered questions which we will be pursuing until answers are furnished.

OUR LADY'S HALL, MOURNE ROAD

Picture
The New Management Committee of Our Lady's Hall is now up and running and has had two meetings.  At the first meeting the outgoing and incoming committees met informally.  The Chairperson, Peter Burke, thanked the outgoing committee for their dedicated work and commitment over many years and Joe Giles gave a run-down on the financial situation of the Hall.  There was then a short form ceremony where the outgoing Chairperson, Michael Keane handed over the keys to the new Chairperson as shown in the accompanying picture.
The Committee then took an overview of the hall and agreed to have a survey undertaken to report to the next meeting
.
The full new Committee consists of four nominees of the Parish Pastoral Council, namely, Canon John Flaherty, Liam FitzGerald, Brendan Coghlan, Pat Holmes and four nominees of Drimnagh Residents' Association, namely, Danny McDonnell, John Corr, Margaret Mulrooney and Edmund Lynch.

The Committee then adopted its Constitution which marks the beginning of the real work of the Committee.  A Website is being prepared and other minor remedial works will be carried out.  It is hoped to attract a maximum number of organisations to start using the Hall so that it can live up to its title "MOURNE ROAD COMMUNITY CENTRE
".

Drimnagh Residents Association - A.G.M. 2010

Picture
Association Annual General Meeting
The A.G.M. of the Association was held in the third week of June with an improved attendance on last year's A.G.M. The four highlights of the AGM, not wishing to downgrade the important but routine stuff, were the election of Officers for the coming year; the Chairperson's report and the presentation of the Tony Ward Perpetual Trophy i.e. The Person of the Year Award and the launch of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations -75th anniversary of the foundation of the Association in 1936.
Officers elected were:
Chairperson - Peter Burke; Secretary Treasurer - Ms. Pat Foley;
Committee Members - Joan Maher, Michael Ryan, Edmund Lynch, Rita Fox, Danny McDonnell, Winnie Grehan.
Auditors - Ms. Kay Duignan and Ms Ann Muddiman.
Trustees - Michael Ryan, Joan Maher, Winnie Grehan.
Chairperson's Report: The chairperson gave a comprehensive report covering a wide range of topics in matters of interest to Drimnagh in general - See full chairman's report on the 'circular's page of this Website.
Person of The Year Award - Tony Ward Perpetual Trophy - This award is made annually to a person who has served the community in a manner which could be referred to as above and beyond the call of duty and is always highly deserved.  This year's recipient is no exception as she puts in a huge amount of work on a daily basis for the elderly citizens of the area in the Mother McAuley Day Centre. We congratulate Pauline Kelly, Manager of the McAuley Centre, who is this year's proud recipient of the Tony Ward Perpetual Trophy / Drimnagh's Person of the Year 2009 / 2010. As the photo at the top shows Pauline was completely taken by surprise - she thought she was coming to give a talk to the AGM about the McAuley Centre. Nobody deserved it better.
Diamond Jubilee (75th Anniversary) Celebrations.
In 2011 Drimnagh Residents Association will be celebrating its 75th (Diamond Jubilee( Anniversary. The July meeting of the Management Committee will be devoted entirely to an initial planning discussion around this topic.  Several good suggestions were made at the A.G.M and we hope to be in a position to expand on all of these and come up with a programme worthy of such an auspicious occasion.  The Association is of course the oldest Resident's Association in Dublin and probably in all of Ireland - 75 years of unbroken service is a v.ery noteworthy event in itself.

Outrageous Document By A.R.C
Attempt To Equate Drimnagh

With
'Moyross' In Limerick

A.R.C. the Crumlin based, and hitherto somewhat respected, organisation dealing with mis-use of drugs etc has produced what it calls 'a research document' entitled: BUILDING SOUND FOUNDATIONS - Towards a Strategic Plan for the Development of Support Services for families Affected by Substance Misuse in Drimnagh.

The title sounds plausible enough but the document can only be described as an outrageous affront to everybody living in Drimnagh and a downright insult to all the organisations working in Drimnagh, in some cases for up to 75 years.

Drimnagh Residents Association takes grave exception to this kind of very unneighbourly behaviour and is calling for the immediate withdrawal of the document which is riddled with inaccuracies, very poorly produced, very poorly researched with little actual reference to Drimnagh based organisations, obviously not properly proof read, and overall quite unprofessional.

There is a blatant attempt to completley undermine the Drimnagh Integrated Area Plan which was drawn up through the cooperation of the many organisations in Drimnagh in Association with Dublin City Council and which is currently at the implementation stage. This document has the neck to suggest this plan has been abandoned. Obviously ARC is jealous of the fact Drimnagh has managed to produced an Integrated Area Plan. Their level of arrogance is such they can't stand success outside their own narrow view of the world!

As well as attempting to paint Drimnagh in the worst possible light, this outrageous piece of thrash completely undermines the integrity and credibility of ARC itself, and draws into question and sharp focus its lack of professionalism. If it is so unprofessional in this how can we be satisfied of its professionalism in other areas?

This document is produced, we understand in association with the D12 Local Drugs Task Force and is financed by Pobal - an arm of the Department of Community Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs. At a time of severe financial difficulties one wonders how good money can be apparently and allegedly wasted in this manner.

We understand there is anger in all Drimnagh based organisations at what has occurred and there is a general feeling the only solution is the complete withdrawal of this outrageous document.

New Programme For Young Unemployed

A new programme for young unemployed people in the Dublin 12 area will start on the 12th of July in the St John Bosco Youth Centre.  Anyone who wants to participate in the programme can drop down to the Bosco and fill in application forms or contact Ger Devereux at 01 - 4560100 or ger@thebosco.net.

Breaking The Silence Commemoration Service

On Wednesday afternoon May 12th there was a commemorative service for all who died in the Drimnagh area from drug abuse, alcohol abuse, or violent death. A large crowd attended which included Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Lord Mayor Eimear Costello who spoke at the mass in a thoughtful and sensitive manner. Dublin MEP Gay Mitchell was represented by his wife Nora, Deputy Catherine Byrne as well as Councillors Eric Byrne and Ruairi McGinley also attended. Clergy representing all the local churches participated in the moving ceremony in which music was provided by the local Junior Folk Choir led by Stephen Travers and the St Agnes School Gospel Choir led by Sr. Bernadette.

Drimnagh CDP

A relatively sad event occurred on Thursday April 15th when the Management Committee of Drimnagh CDP met for the final time. Drimnagh CDP was set up formally in October ’05 after two years of intensive preparatory work. Very useful work was done between October ’05 and October ’07 and the potential for the future looked very bright indeed. However, in October ’07, as a result of disastrous meddling by KWCD Partnership (aided and abetted it has to be said by a handful of sad & misguided local individuals) the CDP was fatally undermined and eventually with the demise of the KWCD, funding ceased to be available. This meant that Drimnagh was deprived of annual funding to the tune of €60,000 which was to be used in the interests of Community Development.  Those responsible for the closure of Drimnagh CDP have a lot to answer for and should be truly ashamed of themselves. In the meantime life goes on and those of us left to pick up the pieces must do just that and ‘move on’. The Community must always come first.

Our Lady's Hall

The New Management Committee is almost ready to take over and will be having its inaugural meeting by early May. The immediate demands will be to put structures in place which will be able to plan and execute an exciting future to put the Hall at the centre of the Community. (Further details soon)

Musical Extravaganza

The recent musical extravaganza  on April 7th in Our Lady's Hall, Mourne Road, in aid of the McAUley Centre and 'Goal' Relief in Haiti was an outstanding success. There were several supporting acts but 'The Brother Mags' stole the show for the audience which filled the Hall. This is the third 'Extravaganza' organised by the Brother Mags and it lived up to the very high standards set by previous shows.

Drimnagh Integrated Area Plan

What’s it all about……………………

Because of developments and proposed developments taking place at the time (2006 / ’07) it was felt Drimnagh badly needed an overall Plan which would guide the City Planners and restrict the type of Development that could take place. There was a clear Community understanding that the development of the Apartment Complex on Slievebloom Road should never be allowed to be repeated in Drimnagh.

There were some initial casual meetings and by early 2007 a steering Committee had been set up and the City Council agreed to fund the drawing up of an Integrated Plan for Drimnagh.

Five important themes (listed below) were recognised, discussed and developed.

1)     Protecting and Enhancing the Local Drimnagh Character and Environment

2)     Developing Major Sports & Recreational Park in Brickfields Park etc

3)     Enhancing the Canal as an Amenity (mixed use Promenade) and laying down markers as to what might constitute acceptable development along the Canal.

4)     Landsdowne Valley Park –Creating a Heritage Park Connecting the Canal with Drimnagh Castle

5)     Recognising the City Corridor and the Prime Urban Centre & City Gateway

(For more detail on these points please visit out Circulars page where we carry more detailed information on the I.A.P i.e. the Integrated Area Plan.)

Dublin Bus

In its ongoing discussions with Dublin Bus, involving making every effort to make sure the 121 / 122 services remain Drimnagh Based, Drimnagh Residents Association are meeting with Senior Reps from Dublin Bus in the next few days to finalise plans to safeguard the termini of those routes. As everyone will be aware we have discussed this matter with the residents of Dromard Road and have had their agreement to have the termini situated at the back of the hospital. This will involve the placing of double yellow lines on both sides of that road (but allowing bus stops) and getting rid of the constant traffic jams that occur there. It is hoped to progress this situation at this meeting. We will issue a full report when the matter is further clarified by this meeting.

Our Lady's Hall

The Process has now been cleared to set up the New Management Committee for Our Lady's Hall. The Committee will consist of four nominees from Drimnagh Residents Association and four nominees from the Parish Pastoral Council. Both organisations have nominated Peter Burke to chair the new Management Committee and it is hoped to have the full Committee in place by Mid-April.

Drimnagh Integrated Area Plan

The monitoring committee is now in place with the two main residents groups (DRA & DCRG) having two reps;  the Network also has two reps with one rep from the St John Bosco Youth Centre and the Lar Redmond Centre. There are also four Councillors and two City Officials. Currently the main focus of attention is the bid by the City Council to acquire serious funding to put a plan, The Drimnagh Smarter Travel project, in place.Drimnagh Residents Association is proud to be playing an active part in this bid by the Council to source funding for Drimnagh. If this bid is successful it will mean for the first time serious money will be invested in Drimnagh for the very first time. We will be publishing an explanation of this project in the coming weeks.
